Christie Kilby serves as the Executive Director of the Center for International Stabilization and Recovery at James Madison University. Born and raised in Harrisonburg, she attended Davidson College (B.A.), Harvard Divinity School (M.T.S.) and the University of Virginia (Ph.D.) before joining the faculty of the Department of Philosophy and Religion at JMU. A tenured associate professor and scholar of Buddhist Studies, her research addresses religion's intersection with conflict, displacement, humanitarianism and human security. She was awarded a Fulbright-Hays Fellowship to conduct fieldwork among Tibetan communities in China and has consulted extensively for the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) initiative on Religion and Humanitarian Principles.

At JMU, Dr. Kilby teaches courses in Buddhist studies, religions of the world, refugee studies, and religion and international humanitarian law. She co-chairs a university-wide Committee on Refugee Partnerships, aiming to expand JMU's engagement with displaced people both domestically and globally. She also serves on the leadership teams of JMU's Every Campus a Refuge and Welcome Corps on Campus programs.
