Meet Adam Tabet, a sophomore Media Arts and Design major with a concentration in Creative Advertising. As a photographer, he treats nature, his preferred subject, with an attention to detail and reverence that makes itself astonishingly clear in this collection. Welcome to “Salt and Serenity of Waikiki,” a showcase of photos from a breathtakingly beautiful spring break trip to the island of Oahu.
“I’d never even been outside of my time zone until I went to Hawaii, and that was just a new experience,” Adam remarks, explaining how he simply decided to tag along on his dad’s work trip, a choice that would expose a whole new side of nature’s majesty to him. He found himself exploring the beautiful neighborhood of Waikiki, a popular spot in Honolulu that offers plenty of stunning views of the landscape and the beaches. In this collection, you will see detail shots of the local flora juxtaposed with powerful photos of waves crashing. According to Adam, part of what fascinates him about the natural world is “how beautiful it can be, but at the same time how powerful and dangerous,” something that is apparent from just one look at these pictures.
Adam’s interest in photography has persisted for several years; starting sometime in middle school and deepening in his high school years. As he has progressed, he has really enjoyed exploring new and creative ways to take and edit photos. “There are just so many different ways to use a camera,” he explains, stressing his interest in stepping outside of the box. As for what drives him the most as a photographer, he explains he has an intense interest in nature and enjoys sharing it with those who view his photos.
