Dr. Mallory Marsh is the Director of the Individual Events Team and an Assistant Professor in the School of Communication Studies.
Marsh graduated with a B.J. in advertising and communication studies from the University of Nebraska, an M.A. in communication studies from The University of Alabama, and a Ph.D. in communication studies with an emphasis in rhetoric and public culture and a specialization in women’s and gender studies from the University of Nebraska. Prior to coming to JMU, Marsh taught and coached as a graduate student at both U. of Alabama and U. of Nebraska. She also served for four years as the Director of Forensics at Bethel College in North Newton, Kansas, after receiving her M.A. and before going on to earn her Ph.D. Her research employs critical rhetorical feminist inquiry to interrogate considerations of whiteness, white supremacy, violence, memory, and gender. In her free time, Marsh enjoys gardening, traveling, playing board games, and going on outdoor adventures in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley with her partner and their dog.
