JMU’s state-of-the-art University Recreation Center (UREC as we like to call it) is a fitness enthusiast’s dream come true. This 278,515-square-foot palace offers group exercise and fitness classes, an aquatics center, an indoor track, a wellness center, cooking classes, personal trainers - even an adventure center to rent gear for a weekend retreat.
Here at JMU, we bleed purple and gold – school spirit is a huge part of the Madison Experience. Whether you’re proudly taking selfies with Duke Dog at a football game or holding a door for a fellow Duke, you’ll see why there is so much JMU love to go around. JMU is here to support you in every way. The Learning Centers offer free tutoring with discipline-specific, customized instruction to help students take their learning to the next level. The Health Center and Counseling Center are driven each day by the concept that good health is absolutely vital to student success. All of these important JMU organizations are staffed by professionals who are driven to deliver their expert care in genuine and confidential ways.
Historically, there are more than 75 programs a year in 50 different countries. Annually, some 1,200 JMU students take part in study-abroad offerings.
