All JMU faculty and staff who serve in an advising function are invited to attend the Day of Community Conversations Advising Conference at JMU in Rose Library on Wednesday, February 27th, 2025. This development opportunity is hosted by the ARC Network and co-sponsored by University Advising, CFI, JMU Libraries, the Advising and Support Center in the College of Business, and the Education Support Center in the College of Education.

This day is an opportunity to share, celebrate, and learn as a community of dedicated advising professionals and elevate the function of advising at JMU. The conference will be a one-day event in Rose Library including a guest panel, concurrent sessions, and other activities with the goal of enhancing advising knowledge and community for faculty and staff while also increasing the effectiveness of our advising programs.

This is also an opportunity for advisors to facilitate a conversation about a topic of interest and share their own practices and expertise relating to advising best practices. Please note the presentations do not need to include original research; instead, facilitators should focus on offering their own advising experiences, practices, and ideas that spark conversation among participants. The conference theme for this year is “Connect, Advocate, Elevate: Strengthening Campus and Student Relationships.” More information for those interested in facilitating a conversation connected to this theme will be available soon.

We look forward to an exciting Day of Community Conversations conference. See you at the conference in Rose Library in February!

Event Goals
  • Elevate the conversation about academic advising through the exploration of the theories, content, tools, and context that informs the work and impact of academic advising on campus and beyond.
  • Create an inclusive space to share and celebrate innovative advising practices occurring at JMU.
  • Foster community among advisors in order to share practices, information, and promote awareness of what’s going on and support professional development.
