Dr. Joseph Sany is the Vice President of the Africa Center at the United States Institute of Peace (USIP). Sany has over 20 years of experience working at the forefront of peacebuilding with governments, international organizations, businesses, and civil society. He formerly advised international organizations and development agencies including USAID missions, the Economic Community of Central African States, and the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti on peacebuilding and development strategies. Dr. Sany also led several peacebuilding and civil society program assessment and evaluation missions in 20+ countries in Africa. He worked wth USIP staff on expanding and establishing the US State Department-funded USIP/African Contingency Operations Training and Assistance program as a gold standard of civilian-led pre-deployment training. Dr. Sany has also taught peacebuilding courses and published scholarly articles on peacekeeping, peacebuilding, and civil society.
