Madison Scholarships Hub is the application center for all 2020-2021 award year JMU Foundation scholarships administered by the following areas: Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships, College of Arts & Letters and the College of Business.

Qualifications for the majority of our scholarships are based on the general application information as well as information pulled directly from your admissions application.
Deadlines
Deadlines vary across departments so be sure to complete the general application as soon as possible to receive full consideration. Review the criteria carefully for any recommended scholarship opportunity you are presented with and if you meet the qualifications, click apply to submit additional required information.
College of Arts and Letters Opportunity Scholarship
The Opportunity Scholarship provides awards up to $5,000 to support study abroad/study away, research travel, internships, and other opportunities that advance students’ academic and professional goals. The scholarship can fund travel expenses (flights, mileage), program fees, housing, and other costs associated with participating in the proposed opportunity.
Eligibility Requirements
- Continuing JMU undergraduate student with a College of Arts and Letters major
- Earned at least 12 credit hours at JMU
- GPA of 2.0 or greater
- Demonstrated financial need
Application Process
This is an apply-to opportunity. The application will open on October 1, 2024. Applicants must submit the following information through the Madison Scholarship Hub by December 1, 2024:
- Short description of the proposed opportunity and how it will advance your academic and professional goals (approximately 250 words)
- Brief discussion of when and how the funding will be used (approximately 250 words)
- Completed Budget Form
- Contact information for two references with name, e-mail address, phone number, and relationship to you. References can be faculty members, advisors, internship coordinators, employers, or others who can provide insights into your academic and professional work. At least one reference should be able to speak directly to the proposed opportunity (e.g., director of your study abroad program or internship supervisor).

- Quality and thoughtfulness of responses
- Academic performance
- Financial need
Additional Details
Scholarship amounts vary based on the requested funding amount. The maximum award is $5,000. The money is distributed by the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships. Funds will be applied first toward any outstanding bill; students can select online how they will receive the remainder of the funds. The disbursement process begins after the first day of classes.
