Research Opportunities

Humanities Research - includes English, History, Modern Foreign Languages, and Philosophy and Religion.

Communication and Media Research - includes Communication Studies, Media Arts and Design, and Writing, Rhetoric and Technical Communication.

Social Science Research - includes Anthropology, International Affairs, Justice Studies, Political Science, Public Administration, and Sociology.

Cross-Disciplinary Research - involves research across multiple disciplines, including through cross-disciplinary minors, centers, and labs.

Presenting Your Research

JMU Arts and Letters Undergraduate Research Conference features outstanding work by undergraduate humanities and social science majors across the eastern United States and has become one of the largest humanities and social science undergraduate research conferences in the region.

Publishing Your Research

James Madison Undergraduate Research Journal (JMURJ) is a multidisciplinary, student-run, peer-reviewed undergraduate academic journal that gives undergraduates an outlet for their research and scholarship.

RhetTech—founded by the School of Writing, Rhetoric, and Technical Communication—showcases exemplary work being done in undergraduate writing, rhetoric, and technical communication courses around the country.
