The JMU Master of Science in Nursing Program prepares graduate nurses to meet the challenge of rapidly changing and increasingly complex health care environments. The Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner (AGPCNP) concentration prepares graduates to synthesize assessment data in order to diagnose and manage adult patient health and illness needs. The focus of AGPCNP practice is on health promotion and disease prevention and to be a client partner and advocate within the health care delivery system. Students complete a total of 780 clinical practicum hours in this program, where they apply clinical skills, theories, and research findings to provide primary care to individuals from adolescents to older adulthood in a variety of health care settings.

Graduates of the AGPCNP program are qualified to take the certification exam through the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) http://www.aanpcert.org/certs/ or the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) https://www.nursingworld.org/ancc/.
