Professional Biography:
Working on behalf of the provost, Dr. Oldmixon leads divisional efforts related to faculty development, academic program development and evaluation, academic policy, and core curriculum administration.
Before coming to JMU, Dr. Oldmixon was a faculty member at the University of North Texas. She served as Director of Academic Policy in the Office of the Provost and Faculty Director (chair) of UNT’s branch campus in Frisco, TX. On the Frisco branch campus, Dr. Oldmixon implemented the university’s vision and strategic goals related to academic affairs; supported enrollment efforts; facilitated curriculum development and execution; and supervised and mentored a multidisciplinary faculty group that included representation from the humanities, social and behavioral sciences, STEM, and business disciplines.
An award-winning educator, Dr. Oldmixon’s research and teaching interests focus on religion and legislative politics. She previously served as editor-in-chief of the journal Politics and Religion. She is formerly a Fulbright Scholar at University College Cork, Ireland; an American Political Science Association Congressional Fellow; and a Texas Academic Leadership Academy Fellow. Dr. Oldmixon received her PhD in political science from the University of Florida and is a professor in JMU's Department of Political Science.
