Special Education General Curriculum K-12 - 

         Fall admission: Opens September 1st, Review starts February 1st, deadline is March 1st.

Special Education Adapted Curriculum K-12 -

         Fall admission: Opens September 1st, Review starts February 1st, deadline is March 1st. 

         Spring admission: Opens May 1st, Review starts October 1st, deadline is November 1st.

         Summer admission: Opens October 1st, Review starts March 1st, deadline is April 1st. 

Early Childhood Special Education (Birth-Age 5) - 

          Fall admission: Opens September 1st, Review starts February 1st, deadline is March 1st. 

          Spring admission: Opens May 1st, Review starts October 1st, deadline is November 1st.

          Summer admission: Opens October 1st, Review starts March 1st, deadline is April 1st.

Transcripts

Unofficial transcripts from all post-secondary institutions should be uploaded with your electronic application and may be used for departmental admission review purposes. If offered admission, you will be directed and required to submit to the JMU Graduate School an official transcript from any institution from which a degree has been awarded to finalize your admission. Transcripts are considered official if they are sent to JMU directly from the issuing institution.

Required by Program
  • Professional resume
  • Two-to-three page written statement
  • Two Letters of Recommendation (one from an individual who can speak of your potential as a graduate student and another who can comment on your professional dispositions.)
  • Teacher candidates must also apply for, and be admitted toTeacher Education at JMU.

Pass Virginia Communication and Literacy Assessment (VCLA) if not a licensed teacher

Pass Praxis I math or submit SAT/ACT scores that would waive Praxis I math
