Grad Student Travel Grants

The JMU Grad School, in conjunction with STAIR, offers grants consisting of a maximum of $250 to $1,000 per graduate student to reimburse travel expenses. Students are encouraged to first seek travel funds from their program and department before applying for TGS funding.

Proposal Writing & Development

The Office of Sponsored Programs offers proposal preparation assistance by clarifying sponsors' submission procedures, aiding in budget development, and interpreting federal, state, and university policies related to sponsored projects. Editing services may also be provided upon early request.

JMU Office of Sponsored Programs

This office exists to help JMU scholars find and procure funding. Use this resource to search for grant opportunities and to get assistance with the entire grant writing process.

Funding Opportunities and Resources

Research, Econonomic Development, and Innovation at James Madison University has purchased a subscription to SPIN by InfoEd Global. This subscription provides JMU faculty, staff, and students with access to a comprehensive repository to search current funding opportunities, as well as the ability to set up automatic email notifications.

Global Opportunities Scholarship

The Global Opportunity Grant is a $1,000 grant designed to provide support for students who participate in graduate-level study abroad experiences, including, but not limited to, short-term programs offered through Study Abroad at JMU, practicum, internship and field placements outside the United States, and conducting research outside the United States.

GSA Professional Development Grants

These grants are to be awarded to students for entrance into professional societies, to attend workshops that will benefit their academic career, or other creative learning opportunities that would not be funded through travel grants or may not be supplemented by departments.

Amounts will be awarded based on the amount required for each specific request up to $200.
