Ways to support migrant families in the Shenandoah Valley:

  1. Volunteer tutoring- see our volunteer section for more information

  2. Donate items to the program

SVMEP accepts the following donations for migrant families year-round:

    • School supplies
Migrant families qualified into the program are often families who experience income limitations, therefore do not have the means to purchase their children’s school supplies.

Items collected include: Backpacks, notebooks, pencils, erasers, markers, highlighters, colored pencils, pens, pencil pouches, folders, binders, etc.

    • Hygiene products
SVMEP works with the seasonal apple camp workers seasonally and provides them with hygiene products, school, materials and clothing.

Items collected include: Toothpaste, tooth brush, hair brush, body wash, deodorant, loofah, razors, face wash, sanitary pads, band aids, etc.

    • Clothing & Shoes
SVMEP works with the seasonal apple camp workers seasonally and provides them with hygiene products, school, materials and clothing. Additionally, families who are newly arrived in the area working outside of the apple camps often require proper clothing for their children in the cold seasons.

      Items collected include:
Blankets, sweaters, socks, tennis shoes, winter jackets, etc.

Please note that most of our apple camp workers are male and between the sizes of small and medium.
