Information

Karina Kline-Gabel has served as a Lecturer of Spanish for the Department of Foreign Languages, Literatures, & Cultures since 2003 at James Madison University. She received her M.A. in Spanish Literature from the University of Virginia and her B.A. in International Affairs and Latin American Studies from JMU. Karina serves as the Faculty Diversity Liaison for the College of Arts & Letters and is an active member of the JMU Latin American & Caribbean Studies Committee as well as the founder of the Madison Hispanic Faculty Caucus. Her advocacy focuses on Latino/x students and faculty at JMU as well as local and state Spanish speaking communities. Karina currently serves as vice-chair for the Virginia Latino Advisory Board and the Virginia Latino Higher Education Network (VALHEN). Locally she serves on the board for the Scholars Latino Initiative and is the director for the Hispanic Film Festival. A native of Harrisonburg, VA with Colombian heritage, she embraces the perspective of having been raised in a bilingual/bicultural household and seeks to direct her energy towards efforts promoting diversity, access, and inclusion that will benefit marginalized communities throughout the Commonwealth.
