Associate Director for the Center for Multicultural Student Services
Rebeca Barge is the Associate Director of Cultural Education in the Center for Multicultural Student Services. She is currently a doctoral student in the School of Strategic Leadership Studies pursuing a Ph.D. in Postsecondary Education and Analysis. As a Student Affairs practitioner who partners with various faculty in her role, she is committed to developing stronger links between co-curricular and classroom learning in the areas of equity, access, and inclusion in efforts to retain students. She received a Master's in social work from The Catholic University of America in Washington, DC and her undergraduate degree in Social Work and Spanish from Eastern Mennonite University, in Harrisonburg, VA. Before moving into the higher education world, Rebeca worked for over 10 years within nonprofit organizations providing education and mentoring services, case management and clinical support, equity training and leadership development to students. She is passionate about equity-based practice and curriculum development, as well as reggaeton and connecting with Latinx students. Born in El Salvador and raised in Guatemala, Rebeca grew up speaking Spanish, and moved to Harrisonburg when she was 12.
