Strings

JMU provides a broad range of ensembles for student musicians. Studio instruction is at the core of each student's success. Applied lessons are available for all majors with individual faculty members who are teacher/performer specialists on each instrument. Master classes given by guest artists and those held by the string faculty offer excellent sources of supplemental instruction.

The School of Music has a strong tradition of chamber music performance. Students participate in string trios and quartets and/or in mixed ensembles with keyboard, wind and brass players. There also are many opportunities for solo performances as part of weekly area and departmental recitals.
