Have Questions About Okta?
Information Technology-ComputingIf you've read any of the recent IT Newsletters or Computing News articles, you've undoubtedly heard mention of Okta and Okta Verify. In the event that you still have questions, here are some answers to some of the most frequent questions we receive.
What is Okta?
It's a new system that will assign and manage electronic IDs (eIDs). It also replaces Duo and adds a layer of security every time you use your eID to log in to any JMU system.
Will I use Okta?
You certainly will -- at least as often as you use Duo, which Okta Verify will replace. For most people, that's every day.
What is Okta Verify?
It's an app that you will need to install on your smartphone. It works very much like Duo Mobile does today and will serve a similar purpose.
Is Duo going away?
It will, but do not uninstall it yet, even when you complete the Okta enrollment. You will still need to use Duo until Spring Break, when Okta Verify will then take over.
When will I enroll in Okta?
JMU is enrolling in phases, which you can find on JMU's Okta website. You will be sent an email during your enrollment phase. Please do not wait to enroll until Spring Break because we want your transition to be as seamless as possible.
What if I don't have a smartphone?
If you don't have a smartphone, or if your smartphone doesn't run on an Android/iOS version compatible with Okta Verify, then you'll need to get a Yubikey device.
