In the fall of odd numbered years, JMU submits enrollment projections for three biennia (6 years) to the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV). The current projections include the years 2021-22 through 2027-28. JMU is required to project headcount and degrees conferred on many dimensions:

• academic programs (undergraduate, graduate and certificates)
• location of degree-related courses taken
• residency (in-state and out-of-state)
• Science, Technology, Engineering, Math and Health (STEM-H)

The amount of funds provided to JMU by the Virginia General Assembly and internal funding decisions are predicated on the accuracy of the projections.
