Although JMU is known for its excellent dining options, more than 38% of our students deal with food insecurity. This means they may not be able to afford to buy groceries, much less eat in our dining halls.
No one should go hungry, but more than a third of our students face that possibility every day.
At our 2023 January event, SEA members toured the JMU Campus Pantry, which was created to address this issue, as well as to help with hygiene and school supplies. The Pantry’s tagline is “We are open to all JMU students, no questions asked.”
The Staff Emeriti Association decided to help by making this our new JMU community project.
At each future SEA event, participants are invited to bring supplies to keep the Pantry’s shelves stocked. (We’ll let you know what the highest need items are before you come.)
Right now, please consider donating to the Pantry, either with a one-time gift or — to make a bigger difference over time — with a regular, recurring gift.
