- Approved tuition and fees for the summer session of 2000. Tuition and fees for Virginia undergraduates will drop by 21 percent - from $66 per semester hour to $52 per semester hour. The decrease reflects the statewide 20 percent decrease in in-state undergraduate tuition. Out-of-state undergraduate tuition will increase from $233 to $240 per hour. Tuition and fees for Virginia graduate students will remain unchanged at $111 per semester hour; out-of-state graduate tuition and fees will increase from $381 to $391 per hour. The summer service fee remains at $4 for all students. Room and board charges are unchanged at $78 and $73, respectively.
- Heard a report on JMU's major capital outlay projects from Steve Knickrehm, assistant vice president for resource planning. Mr. Knickrehm told the board that the second residence hall at the College of Integrated Science and Technology, Chesapeake Hall, was completed and opened in the fall semester. He also told the board that the university has four capital projects under construction and two in the design phase.
- Was given a demonstration of JMU's new web-based student course registration system by Robin Bryan and Alvin Chao of the Information Technology office. The University is replacing its telephone system for registration with the web-based system.
- Following an executive session, voted to request the Governor to include funding in his budget for JMU to purchase a piece of property near campus.
