The James Madison University Board of Visitors met Friday, January 7, 2005, in the Board Room of JMU's College Center. Following is a summary of actions taken by the board and key areas of discussion at the board meeting:
- Approved updates to the Faculty Handbook including a revised tenure decision date which allows for protracted General Assembly sessions.
- Approved recommendations by the office of Admissions to study for 6 years the new SAT II test before considering to include it as a formal component of admissions requirements.
- Approved an increase in summer session tuition fees.
- Approved purchase of the Rockingham Memorial Hospital property for $50.6 million and property on Grace Street currently leased by the university.
- Approved designs for the finance building and a new educational and administrative facility at the JMU Arboretum.
