Dominican Republic
Honors students use their Spring Break to take part in a Central American engagement experience that includes volunteering with a local nonprofit focused on ethics and sustainable housing. The trip also features lectures and a unique opportunity for transformative exposure to the Dominican culture.
Florence, Italy
JMU’s Semester in Florence program is a study abroad program designed for students who want to immerse themselves in one of the world’s richest cultures. Students take classes in Palazzo Capponi in Via dei Michelozzi, a 14,000-square-foot palace owned by Pio Istituto de’ Bardi.
Washington Semester
The JMU Washington Semester program is open to students of all majors and enables students to explore the wealth of political and cultural opportunities available in the Washington, D.C. area. The program features semester-length internships, courses taught at the JMU Washington Center, JMU-arranged housing and networking with alumni in the nation's capitol.
Semester in Spain
Offered fall, spring, and summer, JMU’s Semester in Spain program provides a rich academic and cultural experience, with well-qualified, dedicated faculty from the University of Salamanca.
Costa Rica
This excursion is designed to help JMU students learn about how social and cultural factors influence health and well-being among elderly Costa Ricans. In this experience, students engage with locals in immersive cultural experiences on the way to discovering the ins and outs of a lifestyle that promotes longevity and wellness among its remarkable participants. Global Healthcare Europe Study Abroad
In this amazing two-week experience, JMU students get an up-close-and-personal perspective on healthcare systems from two different cultures. Under the watchful eye of JMU faculty, 29 students from a variety of academic disciplines talked to medical practitioners and everyday citizens in Spain and the Czech Republic. In addition to fun cultural experiences during their down time, the trip helped Dukes appreciate that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to healthcare—including universal healthcare. Read more ▸
