JMU Honors College provides exciting opportunities for students seeking to enrich their academic experiences through intentionally mixing disciplines across the university. While many students apply to the Honors College as first-year students, seeking participation as a transfer or current student is possible. In addition to honors-focused courses, it offers Capstone Projects, an ePortfolio Initiative, study abroad opportunities, and advising to interested students.
Social work academic advisers are always interested in and supportive of students who engage in Honors College opportunities with early discussions encouraged. These may be enhancements to existing courses or supporting individualized projects or research efforts. Due to the social work semester-long field practicum experience during the final senior semester, early course planning is necessary to complete comprehensive honor projects. The academic advisers are the most helpful in student Honor College achievement. Students should discuss this option as their academic plan is developed.
