Field observations, practicum placements and student teaching are essential to JMU Teacher Education programs. In addition, these experiences serve as opportunities to enhance the relationship between the university and the community. Field experiences are rich in diversity to provide opportunities to work with all types of learners.  As a result, field placements are chosen on the representation of different cultures, socio-economic status, and in urban and rural locations.

Many placements are available within our local city school division and surrounding communities.  Therefore, students may be required to travel.

Practicum Information

For all practicum placements, students must submit the Online Practicum Information Form to the Education Support Center due by the second Friday of the semester. Please do not complete this form until four weeks prior to practicum placement start date. This form is in lieu of students paying for a background check.

Introduction to early field experience modules are available: MVC Introduction to Early Field Experience Modules

For any field experience placement, students can report any issue(s) or concern(s) about their placement.
