The Laboratory School for Innovation & Career Exploration is a partnership between James Madison University (JMU), Rockingham County Public Schools (RCPS), and Blue Ridge Community College (BRCC). The intent of this initiative is to provide high school students with interdisciplinary, hands-on, project-based learning opportunities that allow students to engage in real-world application of problem-solving. Students will be able to use these learning experiences to explore a wide variety of careers, in order to inspire and empower their own individual career readiness pathway.
The Lab School is to be housed across all four high schools within Rockingham County, beginning with Broadway High School and East Rockingham High School in the Fall of 2024. The program will expand to Turner Ashby and Spotswood High School in 2025. The Lab School is expected to have 600 students ranging from 9th-12th grade enrolled in the program by the 2028-2029 academic year.
