Application Deadline
Admission to the certificate program requires that applicants have completed at least a master's degree.
Admission decisions are made on a rolling basis. All applications submitted by the below deadlines will be considered for the corresponding semester.
- For Spring admission: December 1
- For Fall admission: July 15
Applications temporarily close for maintenance following the deadline and reopen for consideration for the next academic year on December 21 and August 4 respectively.
Educational Leadership Certificate does not qualify for a student visa.

Transcripts
Unofficial transcripts from all post-secondary institutions should be uploaded with your electronic application and may be used for departmental admission review purposes. If offered admission, you will be directed and required to submit to the JMU Graduate School an official transcript from any institution from which a degree has been awarded to finalize your admission. Transcripts are considered official if they are sent to JMU directly from the issuing institution.

Postgraduate Professional License required
Two Letters of Recommendation (school administrator and instructional). Your recommenders will receive an email asking for their recommendation.
Also required by the program:
Applicants should have an undergraduate GPA of 2.75 or better, hold or have held a valid teaching license or provide documentation of professional employment in the field, and have three years of full-time teaching (or equivalent) experience in a school setting.
Students who did not complete an M.Ed. degree as their master's program must take EDUC 641 or equivalent as a prerequisite prior to admission.
