What We Do

The Madison Historians is open to all students including freshmen, history minors and majors, and to any student interested in history. The club provides out-of-classroom history-related experiences for students as well as fun, fellowship and service.

The Madison Historians have devoted one or two Saturdays each semester to assist with the restoration at Montpelier. In past semesters they have worked with the archaeologist, dug up plants, and moved furniture.  They are currenting working with historical preservation efforts in Harrisonburg. They also assist with Madison Day events in March.

Most semesters the Madison Historians take a trip to a place of historical interest. Past trips have been to Williamsburg, Gettysburg, the White House, Philadelphia, Outer Banks, Harpers Ferry, Antietam, the Frontier Culture Museum and Richmond.

Each semester they hold a student versus faculty historical Jeopardy night, several historical movie nights, and have held a number of period costume historical dances in the spring.
