All high school students are welcome to attend the first JMU Jazz High School Combo Workshop hosted by the JMU Jazz Studies Faculty! This workshop is for high school students interested in developing and improving improvisational skills. Combos will be formed to accommodate all experience levels, from beginning to advanced improvisers. During the workshop, you will:
- meet, rehearse with, and perform with JMU Jazz Studies faculty, JMU Jazz Studies students, and motivated high school jazz musicians from throughout the region.
- attend a performance by JMU Jazz Studies Faculty.
- participate in masterclasses by, and receive combo coaching from, the JMU Jazz Studies Faculty
- perform in the state-of-the-art JMU Forbes Center for the Performing Arts Recital Hall.
Additional Information:
- Horn players must bring their own instruments. Vocalists must bring a mic, cord, and amp. Guitarists and bassists must bring their own cords and amps. Drummers must bring their own cymbals, sticks, brushes, and hi-hat clutch. Drum sets will be provided.
- Lunch will be at JMU D-Hall for approximately $18.00, payable by cash or card.
- Parents, directors, and friends are welcome to attend the 3:00pm JMU Jazz Workshop student combos performance in the Forbes Center Recital Hall. Parking and admission to the performance are both free!
