They’re two of the biggest wins in James Madison football history — at Virginia Tech in 2010, and at Virginia 13 years later.

Damon Dillman was on the JMU sideline for both.

Damon has spent more than 20 years working in sports media. He began that career across town at WHSV in Harrisonburg, a stint that included three years as sports director. He was on the anchor desk the night JMU won the 2004 FCS national title, and on the sideline for the Dukes’ historic 2010 win in Blacksburg. He also covered multiple NCAA tournament teams at JMU in both baseball and women’s basketball.

After his time in Harrisonburg, Damon spent almost a decade as sports director at WCAV CBS19 in Charlottesville. He made multiple trips to Omaha to cover UVA at the College World Series, followed the football team to the 2019 Orange Bowl, and reported from every stop during the men’s basketball team’s run to the 2019 NCAA championship. Under Damon’s guidance, the WCAV sports department was recognized multiple times by both the Virginia Association of Broadcasters and the Associated Press of the Virginias. Damon was named ‘Best Small-Market Sports Anchor’ four times by the AP of the Virginias.

Damon began his journalism career as a staff writer at the Pottsville Republican & Evening Herald, and spent time as a news reporter at WHSV before making the transition to sports. He also spent two years creating content for the UVA athletic department as its assistant director of creative services - senior producer.
