Duties:

Braille Department Office Assistant: Allied Instructional Services is hiring a part-time office assistant to support the Executive Director of Vision Services in our Broadway, Virginia office location. Preference is given to those with scheduling flexibility and year-round availability. AIS is an educational partner for school systems and government agencies that provides special education and related services for people with disabilities. The braille transcription department works with agencies and independent contractor braille transcriptionists to provide high quality braille materials for braille readers. In the office, the transcription department produces, organizes, binds, and mails physical braille materials to schools and agencies. The transcription department also creates 3D printed models and accessible digital files of educational work. The Broadway Office is seeking a self-starter with an interest in equitable access for all to support these projects in the role of an office assistant.

Job Responsibilities:

• Package and mail braille materials • Bind braille books • Utilize braille devices (with training) to produce tactile graphics • Organize and track office supplies • Create digitally accessible educational materials (from inaccessible files) • Maintain records for braille department projects • Light cleaning (ie: vacuuming, maintaining organized/clean workspace)

Requirements:

Qualifications:

• Valid driver's license • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 • Proficiency with Google Workspace • Able to pass background check • High school graduate (preferred) Ideal Candidates will have: • some knowledge of 3D printing technology • experience with copiers and printers • aptitude to learn new technology • desire to work in a fast-paced environment • ability to multi-task and problem-solve independently • interest in learning the braille code

$20-25/hour

Negotiable, 10-20 as needed
