Clinical education promotes professional growth, providing students with practical experience with real patients while supervised by quality clinical preceptors. JMU MSAT students will spend 34 weeks in clinical immersion education designed to prepare students for independent clinical practice following graduation. JMU is known for educating athletic training students who are ready to meet the career demands of the real world.
Early Patient Care Opportunities
Clinical experiences begin in Year 1 to allow students to start applying patient care skills immediately. Year 2 clinical education immerses students to increase patient exposure and to provide students the opportunity to build decision-making skills for quality patient outcomes.
Prepared for Clinical Practice
Clinical education develops clinical skills beyond patient care. Students learn administrative management of medical records, budgets, and facilities. Students become able to communicate with patients, parents, coaches, and other health care professionals to provide patient-centered care.

About JMU: JMU is an NCAA Division I-AA institution that fields 18 athletic teams. JMU competes in the Colonial Athletic Association. Athletic Training students assigned to JMU have the opportunity to assist with all intercollegiate teams.

About UREC ATR:
UREC offers student participants drop-in Athletic Training services for sports related injuries. Athletic Trainers specialize in preventing, diagnosing, and treating orthopedic and sports injuries and illnesses. The Athletic Training Room is located on the second floor of UREC adjacent to the Wellness Center.
This service is provided in partnership with Sentara RMH. Our athletic trainers are ATC’s (Athletic Trainer Certified) who can help evaluate and identify injuries, provide acute care, and educate students on next steps to care for their sports injuries. Trainers will also be on-site for specific high-risk Sport Club practices, games, and tournaments.
About Bridgewater: Bridgewater College is an NCAA Division III institution that fields 20 athletic teams. They compete in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. Athletic Training students assigned to Bridgewater primary assist with football coverage.
Sports: Baseball, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's cross country, field hockey, football, golf, women's lacrosse, men's and women's riding, softball, men's and women's soccer, men's and women's tennis, men's and women's indoor track, men's and women's outdoor track, and women's volleyball. Additionally, the athletic program supports cheerleading, a dance team and pep band.
Directions from JMU: Take Port Republic Road to South High Street (HWY 42). Turn left onto S. High St. (heading south). Follow this to Bridgewater, Va. Once in Bridgewater, turn left on Dinkel Ave. Bridgewater College will be on the left.
About EMU: Eastern Mennonite University is an NCAA Division III institution that fields 16 athletic teams. They compete in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. Athletic Training students will have the opportunity to assist with all EMU Intercollegiate athletic teams.

About Broadway High School: Broadway High School fields 25 interscholastic teams (includes varsity and junior varsity) that compete in Group AA, Valley District. Athletic Training students will have the opportunity to assist with all the athletic teams.
Sports: Baseball, girls' and boys' basketball, cheerleading, girls' and boys' cross country, football, golf, indoor track, softball, girls' and boys' outdoor track, girls' and boys' soccer, swimming, girls' and boys' tennis, volleyball, and wrestling.
Directions from JMU: Take Port Republic Road to South High Street (HWY 42). Turn right onto S. High St. (headed north). Turn right onto E Springbrook Road after passing the Broadway Emergency Squad. Broadway Highschool will be on the left.
About Harrisonburg High School: Harrisonburg High School fields 34 interscholastic teams (includes varsity and junior varsity) that compete in AA Region III, AA Massanutten District. Athletic Training students will have the opportunity to assist with all the athletic teams.
Sports: Baseball, girls’ and boys’ basketball, cheerleading, girls’ and boys’ cross country, football, golf, girls’ gymnastics, girls’ and boys’ indoor track. Softball, softball, girls’ and boys’ outdoor track, soccer, swimming, girls’ and boys’ tennis, volleyball, and wrestling.
Directions from JMU: Take Port Republic Rd. to S. High St./Rt. 42 south. (Port Republic Rd. becomes Maryland Ave). Turn left onto S. High St./Rt. 42 (1.3 miles). Turn right onto Erickson Ave (.5 miles), then turn right onto Garbers Church Rd. (.3 miles). The high school will be on the left.
About Mountain View High School: Mountain View High School fields 27 interscholastic teams (includes varsity and junior varsity) that compete in VHSL Group A, Region B, Shenandoah District. Athletic Training students will have the opportunity to assist with all the athletic teams.
Sports: Baseball, girls' and boys' basketball, cheerleading, girls' and boys'cross country, football, golf, girls' and boys' outdoor track, softball, girls' and boys' soccer, girls' and boys' swimming, girls' tennis, volleyball, and wrestling.
Directions from JMU: Take I-81 North to Exit 269 toward Shenandoah Caverns. (VA-730) Turn left onto Caverns Rd. Caverns Road becomes Stonewall Lane. Continue straight on Stonewall Lane. You will see signs. MVHS will be on your right.
