UREC offers student Athletic Training services for sports-related injuries! This service is provided in partnership with Sentara RMH. Our Athletic Trainers are licensed healthcare providers in the state of Virginia and hold the state credential of Certified Athletic Trainer.
Students can make an appointment for a New Injury Evaluation. A "new injury" is defined as a sports-related injury that the UREC Athletic Trainers have not yet seen you for. During this appointment, the Athletic Trainers evaluate and assess sports-related injuries, educate students on next steps to care for their injury, and refer for further care if needed.
During the New Injury Evaluation, UREC Athletic Trainers will provide direction if an Injury Follow Up appointment is needed (link coming soon), and how far out to schedule. Students may not schedule an Injury Follow Up appointment option for any injury the Athletic Trainers have not conducted a New Injury Evaluation.
If you cannot make your appointment, cancel an hour before the start of your appointment block to avoid a no-show. Arrive 5 minutes before your appointment. Late arrivals will result in a no-show.
Athletic Trainers also assess acute injuries and are also on-site for specific high-risk Sport Club events.
See the FAQ below for questions related to treatment, physical therapy, concussions, and more.
The University Health Center is available for students for all general medical concerns, view their services such as "Ask a Nurse." The UHC website also provides information regarding emergency and after-hours resources.

The Athletic Trainers can serve as a resource for students who are at any phase of their injury recovery, specifically in the transition between physical therapy and returning to exercise/sport.
During New Injury Evaluation appointments, the Athletic Trainers will teach students any rehab exercises they recommend for their specific injury and how to replicate the exercises on their own using equipment in UREC fitness spaces or using every day items. Injury Follow Up appointments are to check progress and are not meant to serve as rehab appointments on a regular basis.
