Overview

UREC offers student participants Athletic Training services for sports related injuries! This service is provided in partnership with Sentara RMH. Our athletic trainers are licensed healthcare providers in the state of Virginia and hold the state credential of ATC (Certified Athletic Trainer). Our Athletic Trainers can help evaluate and identify injuries, provide acute care and educate students on next steps to care for their sports injuries.

Due to COVID-19 safety modifications, students will need to register for an Athletic Training Room appointment.

Register Now!

  • Your first appointment MUST be for an Injury Evaluation (titled "FIRST APPOINTMENT" on URECregister). If you book a different type of appointment such as "Injury Treatment" prior to a "FIRST APPOINTMENT", the Athletic Trainers may not be able to fit you in at that time.
  • Faculty, staff, affiliates, and alumni are not able to book athletic training appointments as this is a service for students.
  • Ice bags and acute injury care will continue to be available during all Athletic Training Room hours on a drop-in basis.
  • Please contact the University Health Center for non sports-injury related medical concerns.

A COVID-19 screening will be required at the entrance of the Athletic Training Room, which will include a temperature check due to the close proximity that may be required for the appointment. The Athletic Training staff will wear masks, eye coverings, and gloves. Disinfection of the space will take place before and after treatment. All visitors must maintain 6 feet distance between themselves and others, 10 feet during exercises.

The Athletic Training Room is located on the second floor of UREC to the right of the Wellness Center. Athletic Trainers will also be on-site for specific high-risk Sport Club practices, games and tournaments.

Students who have been directed by a physician for physical therapy are strongly encouraged to seek care from a physical therapy clinic prior to utilizing JMU UREC Athletic Training services. The ATCs may serve as a resource for students in the transition between physical therapy and returning to exercise/sport.
