Camp UREC
Camp UREC is a weekly children's day camp at the James Madison University Recreation Center. Kids will have full days of fun playing in the recreation center, around campus and in the community. Camp Counselors are trained, background-checked JMU student employees.
Enrollment is available for children ages 5 - 12 (rising kindergarteners through rising eighth graders). Kids ages 5 - 8 can sign up for Camp UREC "Purple" and kids ages 9 - 12 can sign up for Camp UREC "Gold." Camp is open to everyone, regardless of JMU affiliation.

- 10:45 - 11 a.m. - Break and Travel Time

- Noon - 12:30 p.m. - Lunch
- 12: 30 - 1 p.m. - Quiet Time
- 1 - 2:15 p.m. - Community Activity/Pool
- 2:15 - 2:30 p.m. - Break and Travel Time
- 2:30 - 3:45 p.m. -Community Activity/Pool
- 4 - 4:30 p.m. - Pick Up
Fridays include a local field trip.

- Registration will open Monday, February 17, 2025 at 8 a.m.
- Camp UREC Cost: $265/week
- JMU Faculty/Staff/Student Cost: $250/week

How to Register
- Go to urecregister.jmu.edu and select "SIGN IN" at the top right corner.
- If you are a JMU faculty/staff/student, your login is your JMU E-ID and JMU password.
- If you are not currently affiliated with JMU, create a guest account by selecting "SIGN UP."
- Please note that you will need to add a dependent to your account before registering your child for youth programs.
- If you are already logged in, click on your username link on the top right of the urecregister.jmu.edu page and click "Profile."
- If you are not logged in, select "SIGN IN" at the top and log in.
- Scroll to the bottom and click "ADD FAMILY MEMBER." Once this is complete, you will be able to register your child.
- To register more than one child, choose "continue shopping" instead of "check out" when you get to your cart.
- Once your registration is complete, you will receive a confirmation email.
Additional Camp Information
- Please follow the outlined Driver Drive drop-off and pick-up route.
- By registering your child, you are giving permission for your child to visit locations on and off-campus (in Harrisonburg) with Camp UREC. Please note that each Friday, the bus leaves promptly at 9:30 a.m. Any children arriving at Camp UREC after the bus leaves on Friday must be dropped off at the field trip location site, not left at UREC.
- Camp Counselors are trained and background-checked JMU student employees.
- UREC follows the American Camp Association's recommendations for ratios of adults to participants.
- One staff member for every 5 campers ages 4 and 5
- One staff member for every 6 campers ages 6 to 8
- One staff member for every 10 campers ages 9 to 11
- One staff member for every 15 campers ages 12 to 17
- Campers will need to bring their own packed lunch. Drop off (8:30 - 9 a.m.) and pick up (4 - 4:30 p.m.) are both at UREC.
- Camp is open to both JMU and non-JMU affiliates.
- As of 2025, Camp UREC will no longer designate specific weekly themes. Instead, Camp UREC will focus on aligning our programs and activities for campers to components of the JMU Well-Being Model in an effort to better align with our departmental mission, which is to promote and advance healthy lifestyles.
Refund Policy
To cancel registration, please email CampUREC@jmu.edu with the name of child/children and the session(s) you would like to cancel. Full refunds are guaranteed if registration is canceled by the appropriate refund deadline. A partial refund can be granted if submitted at least six business days before the start of that camp week.
Full Refund Deadline - Sessions 1-3:
on or before 11:59pm on Friday, May 23rd, 2025
Full Refund Deadline – Sessions 4-7:
on or before 11:59pm on Friday, June 20th, 2025
If a cancellation is requested after the appropriate deadline, a refund of any amount cannot be guaranteed. All unforeseen circumstances or emergency situations will be handled on a case-by-case basis.
Funds will be returned in 7-10 business days from when processed to the original payment card unless otherwise noted.
Licensure
Camp UREC is currently applying for licensure with the Virginia Department of Education and all required camper paperwork will be emailed to all registrants separately. This paperwork for each camper will be due to Camp UREC staff by the following deadlines:
