Overview
Our Physics and Astronomy faculty and students have an outstanding reputation in community outreach spanning from Harrisonburg to Romania. At the center of these efforts are the many programs hosted at JMU's state-of-the-art John C. Wells Planetarium. These include star shows for community members of all ages, science education standards-aligned programs for K-12 school groups, summer camps, and programs that encourage girls to pursue STEM.
Other Examples
- Saturday Morning Physics, an educational event series designed especially for high school students and teachers but one parents will enjoy, too.
- Mentoring students preparing for and judging competitions in robotics and other STEM competitions.
- Developing and teaching hands-on physical science lessons for K-12 students including JMU's workshops offered through madiSTEM, cub scout troops, high school AVID programs, and by traveling to science classrooms throughout the region.
