Brendan joined the CGE with 7 years of working in the field of international education. He has a Bachelor’s degree in French Studies from Christopher Newport University, where spent a summer in Paris studying art, French language, and cross-cultural communication. An internship with the global missions department of InterVarsity, a campus ministry organization, sparked his professional journey into global education. While completing his Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration from Appalachian State University, Brendan studied student support services in the U.K. on a faculty-led program. He then began working with the International Programs office at the University of Missouri as a Study Abroad Advisor.
Prior to JMU, his latest role was International Education Coordinator for the Study Abroad Office at Augusta University in Augusta, GA, where he mainly focused on faculty program development.
Brendan’s love for intercultural learning stems from a life of constant transitions and global experiences. It began early, growing up in an Air Force family and moving several times between the U.S. and Europe for more than a decade. Being a “3rd culture kid” helped build his acumen for relationships and communicating across cultures.
Brendan is proficient in French, enjoys learning about other languages, and has many interests in sports (lifelong Manchester United fan!), hiking, music and art. Above all, he and his wife are proud parents of their first child and can’t wait to take her on her first camping trip in the Blue Ridge!
