NAFTA Professionals from Canada and Mexico (TN)
The TN category was developed as part of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), to facilitate the entry of Canadian and Mexican citizens to the United States to engage in professional business activities on a temporary basis.
Only occupations listed in Appendix 2 to Annex 16-A of Chapter 16 of the USMCA qualify for the TN employment. The minimum qualifications for entry into the U.S in each occupation is included in the linked document.
To be eligible for the TN status the employee must be: a citizen of Canada or Mexico, possess the minimum qualifications of a member of one of the listed professions, and entry must be “temporary”. The TN status is valid for 3 years and can be renewed.
