Overview
Global X is a CGE program designed to connect student mentors in their third, fourth, or fifth year at JMU with new international Dukes from all over the world! Global X provides an opportunity for student mentors to develop their leadership and cross-cultural communication skills, while new student mentees are encouraged to make meaningful connections and engage with their new campus home.
Program Structure
Please note: all events for the Fall 2020 term will be virtual.
- Applications are required and accepted at the beginning of each semester. Applications will be evaluated as they are received.
- Mentors will be invited for a brief interview with ISSS staff over Zoom.
- Using the information provided within the applications, each mentor will be paired with a mentee.
- ISSS will send a confirmation e-mail to all applicants about their Global X mentor/mentee. Together, a mentor and mentee form a team!
- All Global X teams are asked to attend a kick-off event at the start of each semester, so they can meet each other and meet other teams as well.
- Global X teams are required to meet at least 3 times per month, whether one-on-one, attending fun CGE events, or meeting up with other teams! The exact amount of times you meet up with your team depends on the mentee's needs and availability.
- ISSS will assist Global X mentors by sending them discussion topics, interesting events around campus, and other suggested activities in Harrisonburg.
- At the end of the semester, you can decide if you would like to continue with your mentor for the Spring term or if you would like to opt out of the program.
