Urgent Care is an option for students who have certain urgent medical needs. These include conditions that require prompt attention. Due to COVID-19 concerns, we are asking for students to call 540-568-6178 before visiting our Urgent Care when possible. Examples of medical problems typically treated in Urgent Care include:

  • Cuts/injuries that may require stitches
  • Minor injuries including muscle or tendon strains, ligament sprains and bone injuries. On-site x-rays are available if needed.
  • Vomiting for more than 24 hours
  • Acute allergic reactions (trouble breathing, hives, lip/tongue/throat swelling)
  • ingrown toenails
  • Abscesses or boils

For Urinary tract infections in females, please call 540-568-6178 for information on evaluation and treatment.

There are common medical conditions such as fever, sore throat, upper respiratory illness, headache, abdominal pain, chest pain, or pain in other areas of the body that are best evaluated and treated through our Telemedicine option or in our General Medicine Clinic. You can make an appointment to Talk to a Nurse through MyJMUChart and they will help you determine your best course of action. We also have self-care guides which are helpful for students with common illnesses.

Urgent Care is now located on the second floor of the Student Success Center (General Medicine entrance).
