The Office of Residence Life hires facilities assistants during the academic years and the summer. They will help with installing, delivering, and moving furniture, making deliveries for ResLife, assisting with inventories, and helping with building inspections and repairs. The work of facilities assistants is typically on the physically demanding side.

Schedule

Yes, just let your supervisor know AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

Academic Year Position:

  • Flexible dates and hours - we work with your schedule!
  • Maximum 20 hours per week

Summer Position:

  • A normal work week during the summer is Monday-Thursday.
  • ResLife works move-in, and we prefer our summer crew to work.

Summer Position:

  • We start at 7:00 a.m. and work until 5:30 p.m. with a 30-minute lunch break. 
Logistics

Yes, there will be some videos to watch as well as hands-on training.

No, we do not require uniforms.

Wear something comfortable for you to move and lift in.

Do not wear anything offensive or inappropriate. 

We prefer that you have a valid driver’s license. You must be 19 to drive a state vehicle.

Those who will be driving will have van training.

Most days you will be expected to carry old mattresses out of the building, new mattresses in, lofting/un-lofting beds, tilt dressers, and desks to check for feet and possibly replace whole pieces of furniture.

You will have equipment to help move furniture throughout the buildings such as platform dollies and hand trucks.

We encourage team lifting for heavy pieces.

50lbs on your own, anything heavier should be carried with a coworker.

You will be regularly using power drills but are expected to handle different screwdrivers, socket wrenches, plyers, and screen spline rollers.

2024-25 Academic Year:

  • Starting at $14/per hour

2025 Summer:

  • Starting at $16 an hour

The middle of the month, usually around the 16th, and the end of the month 30th-31st

Lunch Breaks are 30 minutes long

You can bring your lunch if you prefer but you do not have to. You will be given a swipe card loaded with enough punches for one a day on your scheduled days.
