The Sawhill Collection of Numismatics contains over 400 Ancient Greek and Roman coins spanning nearly 700 years from 450 BCE until 300 CE. The Greek collection contains examples from all the major classical city states and their transitions through the Hellenistic and Roman periods. The Roman collection is heavily weighted towards the Roman Imperial period with examples of all Imperial families until the late Severan period. A particular strength is the coinage of Octavian/Augustus throughout his rule showing the transition of traditional Republican styles of imagery into the more fuller imperial style.
