Academic Success Center

The College of Business Academic Success Center (CoB ASC) advises students majoring or minoring in programs that fall under the College of Business.  Current ISC students who are continuing in the ISC should contact the International Academic Advising Coordinator first to discuss their advising questions.  Students in their final semester in the ISC are welcome to schedule an appointment with an advisor in the CoB ASC.

BBA Core Courses

The BBA Core Courses are required if your major is in the College of Business and is a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) program.  BBA majors include Accounting, Computer Information Systems, Economics, Finance, International Business, Management, or Marketing.

NOTE: You must have earned at least 28 credits to be considered a sophomore.  If you want to know how many credits you have earned, you can find this information on your Unofficial Transcript (PDF).   

BBA Core Course

Enrollment Requirement

ISC Advising Note

COB 191.  Business and Economics Statistics (MATH 220 meets this requirement)

Must have taken MATH 155 or have a sufficient score on the Math Placement Exam.  If you took MATH 220 in the ISC, you do NOT need to take COB 191.

If you did not take this in the ISC, plan to take either COB 191 or MATH 220 at JMU.  

COB 202.  Interpersonal Skills

Must be a sophomore (have earned at least 28 credits)

If you have not earned 28 credits, you should plan to take this class in a future semester.

COB 204.  Computer Information Systems

No prerequisites or requirements! Anyone can enroll!

If you didn’t take this in the ISC, plan to take it your first semester at JMU.

COB 241.  Financial Accounting

Must be a sophomore (have earned at least 28 credits)

If you have not earned 28 credits, you should plan to take this class in a future semester.

COB 242.  Managerial Accounting

COB 241 is a pre-requisite. 

You must take COB 241 before 242.

COB 291.  Introduction to Management Science

MATH 205 and MATH 220 or COB 191 are pre-requisites.  

You must take MATH 205 and MATH 220 or COB 191 before this class.  

ECON 200.  Introduction to Macroeconomics  

No prerequisites or requirements! Anyone can enroll!

If you did not take this in the ISC, plan to take either ECON 200 OR ECON 201 (not both) in your first semester at JMU. 

ECON 201.  Principles of (Micro) Economics

No prerequisites or requirements! Anyone can enroll!

Plan to take either ECON 200 OR ECON 201 (not both) in your first semester at JMU.

MATH 205.  Calculus

Must have taken MATH 155 or have a sufficient score on the Math Placement Exam

If you did not take this in the ISC, plan to take it at JMU.
