Teaching is so context-dependent. At the Center for Faculty Innovation, we recognize that a range of factors affect how we and our students show up in any given semester: the time of day, the discipline, the class subject, the size of the room, how much sleep we’ve all gotten, and more.

Changing leadership, trends in higher education, new research into teaching and learning, and global affairs affect us, too. We offer programming to encourage instructors to consider how best to innovate and respond to the teaching contexts in which they find themselves.

In the past, we’ve provided opportunities for instructors to explore with colleagues how to navigate teaching amidst a global pandemic, what the change to R2 status means for teaching at JMU, the effects of AI on writing instruction, how to discuss election results in class, and more.
