What do I do at the Counseling Center?
I coordinate the Counseling Center’s Sexual Trauma Empowerment Program (STEP) and am a postdoctoral psychologist at the CC. Some of my roles include offering individual counseling services to students, working in collaboration with other campus/community members and initiating outreach programming to support survivors of sexual assault, and facilitating our STEP therapy group.
What's it like to work with me?
I recognize the fear and uncertainty often present when individuals step into a therapist’s office for the first time. My goal as a therapist is to respect where students are currently at in their journey while providing a safe, nurturing environment that facilitates self-exploration, growth, and empowerment to reach desired goals. I believe humor (when appropriate) can be a useful therapeutic tool and I strive to make my work with students a healing, warm, and fulfilling experience. I work from a person-centered, strength-based approach and incorporate interventions from a variety of theoretical perspectives. My work with students is collaborative, and I tailor my approach to meet the unique needs of each individual.
What do I do at JMU outside of the Counseling Center?
When I’m not at the Counseling Center, my favorite activities include running, biking, hiking, or anything else that gets me outdoors. I also enjoy weightlifting, reading, baking, spending time with loved ones, and going for long walks with my dog.
