- Support in connecting to local professionals for longer-term clinical services
- Weekly small-group counseling
- Wilderness therapy programs during spring and fall break
- Specialized 3-part workshops for issues like anxiety, body empowerment, and healthy coping
- Animal assisted therapy and therapy dog outreach
- Access to relaxation and creative arts self-care spaces
- Engaging psychoeducational mental health workshops
Our Impact
Using the most popular assessment of college student mental health symptoms, JMU students improved at greater levels than the national average on each of eight clinical subscales. Last year, of the students who were surveyed by the JMU Counseling Center,
- 99% indicated that their counselor seemed skilled and competent
- 92% indicated that they were now better prepared to work through future problems in healthy ways.
- 70% agreed that because of counseling, they were more likely to stay in school (27% answered "Not Applicable")
"This is truly the most important resource on campus, in my personal opinion. This place has changed my life."
