What do I do at the Counseling Center?
As a Counseling Extern, I provide individual counseling services to students. I also conduct intake appointments, helping students get connected to the appropriate mental health services, as well as other resources on campus.
What is it like to work with me?
I approach my work with clients primarily from an attachment-based perspective, integrating principles from relational-cultural theory, dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and Gestalt therapy into a humanistic foundation, with the therapeutic alliance acting as a sandbox for healthy interpersonal function. Outside of sessions, I make an active effort to stay well-read and well-researched on identities and presenting concerns relevant to my clients. In the counseling space, I value humor, creativity, and authenticity, and strive to create and environment where clients feel accepted and respected.
What do I do at JMU outside of the Counseling Center?
I am currently completing my final year in JMU’s Clinical Mental Health Counseling M.A./Ed. S program. Outside of work and academics, I enjoy writing, drawing, dancing, and walking my dog, Nugget!
