What do I do at the Counseling Center?

As a Counseling Extern, I primarily provide individual counseling support services to students. I also assist with intake appointments, where I help connect students visiting the Counseling Center for the first time to the best resources for them. In addition to these services, I co-facilitate counseling groups and outreach events for the Center.

What's it like to work with me?

My primary objective with clients is to foster a warm and safe environment in which personal growth can be the main focus. I aim to use a holistic approach to counseling (incorporating mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual aspects) in order to help clients work through issues and meet their personal goals. I tend to use humanistic/person-centered therapy and cognitive-behavioral theories to inform my work.

Due to my prior background and experience working with people with disabilities, I have a passion for working with this population in a clinical setting. My hope is to adjust and tailor therapeutic interventions to meet the needs of each unique individual.

What do I do outside of the Counseling Center?

I am completing my third and final year in JMU’s Clinical Mental Health Counseling M.A./Ed.S program. Outside of my education, I love spending time with my family and friends, doing most anything outdoors, and creating art (macrame). I am also passionate about philanthropy, and finding ways to volunteer my time within the local community.
