What do I do at the Counseling Center?
I am a doctoral intern, and I am currently completing my PhD in Clinical Psychology at the University of North Texas (UNT). At JMU’s Counseling Center, I provide individual therapy, group therapy, and consultation. I am also involved in outreach, and I supervise clinicians in training. I primarily focus on helping individuals create meaning in their life experiences. Additionally, I will assist individuals in recognizing how their early attachment style with their caregiver(s) may be influencing their self-perception, perception of others, and their interpersonal relationships.
What's it like to work with me?
I believe there is value in recognizing the impact and strengths our unique experiences and identities can bring in the therapeutic process, various interpersonal relationships, and in our lives more generally. I am attachment, interpersonally, and existentially focused, so I find value in understanding relationship patterns and making meaning out of our life experiences. Recognizing themes and patterns that occur within ourselves and our lives can encourage us to shift our perspective, inspire change, and allow self-empathy.
What do I do at JMU outside of the Counseling Center?
I participate in various community events in and outside of JMU. During my spare time, I enjoy reading, writing short stories, antiquing, and walking through trails, especially during the fall.
