Daily morning classes and coursework will include readings from famous Americans who lived in Paris, followed by relevant excursions to the sights they describe in their writings: the Louvre, Champs-Elysees, Versailles, Luxembourg Garden, and Pantheon, and including culinary excursions to such famous cafes as Les Deux Magots (frequented by the likes of Hemingway, Picasso, and James Baldwin) and the Cafe Procope (a favorite spot of Benjamin Franklin and Voltaire).
HUM 200: Americans in Paris will involve daily morning classes and readings from famous Americans writers, thinkers, and activists who once called Paris their home. After class, students will be led on various excursions to important historic and culinary sites in and around Paris, including world-famous museums, galleries, shops, and restaurants.
Location Description
Paris is the most visited city in the world, and for good reason: it is a veritable treasure of art, history, food, fashion, and shopping. Students will discover the reason why so many Americans have called Paris their home over the past two-and-a-half centuries.
