Embark on a transformative journey to Iceland in June 2025 and immerse yourself in a unique study abroad program focused on personal finance! Welcome to an unforgettable journey to Iceland, a land of stunning landscapes, rich culture, and unique natural wonders. This program combines academic rigor with experiential learning as you explore Iceland's stunning landscapes and delve into the principles of managing personal finances effectively. This study abroad experience is designed not only to immerse you in the beauty and history of Iceland but also to challenge you physically. Throughout this trip, you can expect a range of activities that will include exploring rugged terrains, hiking through breathtaking landscapes, and walking between 3-6 miles on some days. Due to the physical demands of this trip, it is important that all participants are in good health and prepared for the adventure. Being in good physical condition will ensure you can fully enjoy all that Iceland has to offer, from its majestic waterfalls and glaciers to its vibrant cities and cultural sites. Get ready to embrace the excitement, learn, and explore one of the most extraordinary places on Earth!

Program Highlights:

  • Coursework on Personal Finance: We will meet online for one week prior to traveling to Iceland. Sessions will be on Zoom and more details will be added later.
  • Please note that this program Engage in comprehensive coursework designed to equip you with essential financial management skills. Topics include budgeting, investing, understanding credit, and planning for the future. Learn from expert instructors who bring real-world insights and practical knowledge to the classroom.

Location Description

Reykjavik: Explore Iceland's vibrant capital city and visit financial institutions to understand Iceland's economic landscape.

Golden Circle Tour: Experience Iceland's natural wonders, including geysers, waterfalls, and volcanic landscapes, while discussing sustainable economic practices.

Thingvellir National Park: Learn about Iceland's historical significance and its modern economic policies.

Blue Lagoon: Discuss wellness and financial well-being in a relaxing geothermal spa setting.

Puffin tours: If you’re wondering if there are puffins in Iceland, the answer is yes! Iceland is the breeding ground for around 60% of the world’s Atlantic puffin population. The birds spend most of their time at sea, but they return to land during spring and summer. They form large breeding colonies and nest on land from May to late August.

Accommodations

Students may be in shared rooms of 2-4 people.  Housing accommodations are centrally located and public transportation is easily accessible.

Students will be allocated a weekly meal stipend that will cover approximately 10 meals per week, maybe more depending on availability, will update details as they become available.

Additional Items to Consider

If we are able to visit the US Embassy in Reykjavik, a background check by the Embassy officials may be required.

Applicant Criteria

Applicants must have a GPA minimum of 2.6.

Open to undergraduate students in all class levels and majors.

Students must complete ECON 200 and either MATH 155, MATH 205, MATH 231, or MATH 235 prior to the start of the program.
