Program Description

Classroom lecture, personal reflection, excursions to healthcare agencies, guided tours, project-based learning in a community, and cultural immersion. Students will attend regular lectures in classroom and clinical settings enhanced with cultural outings in Spain.

Location Description

Tarragona, located on the northeastern coast of Spain in the region of Catalonia, is a city steeped in rich history and cultural heritage. Perched along the Mediterranean Sea, Tarragona is renowned for its stunning Roman ruins, which have earned it UNESCO World Heritage status. The city's ancient roots are most evident in the well-preserved Roman amphitheater, the Forum, and the impressive aqueduct known as the Pont del Diable. Tarragona's old town, or "Part Alta," is a maze of narrow cobblestone streets, lined with medieval buildings, charming cafes, and vibrant markets. The city's cathedral, a stunning example of Gothic architecture, dominates the skyline and offers breathtaking views from its hilltop location. Modern Tarragona is a lively and bustling city, with a vibrant cultural scene that includes festivals, theater, and music.

The annual Tarragona International Fireworks Competition and the Santa Tecla Festival are among the highlights, drawing visitors from all over the world. The city's beautiful beaches, such as Playa del Miracle and Playa Arrabassada, provide a perfect spot for relaxation and enjoying the Mediterranean climate. Tarragona's cuisine is another highlight, with its emphasis on fresh seafood, traditional Catalan dishes, and local wines. Tarragona is also a significant industrial and commercial hub, with a thriving port and a strong economy. Despite its modern developments, the city has managed to retain its historical charm and laid-back Mediterranean lifestyle, making it a captivating destination for both residents and visitors alike.
